The Latin initialism "INRI" is meant to refer to the phrase "Iēsus Nazarēnus, Rēx Iūdaeōrum", which translates to "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews". According to John 19:20, this phrase was written in three different languages and hung on a plaque above the head of Jesus at his crucifixion. The base is engraved with "Confirmation".
